I am a modest and humble canine chap, a Parson Russell Terrier. I am a cool beach pup, and you will often find me staring at surfers and chasing birds on the Aliso Beach in Laguna; it is one of the best beaches in Orange County that allow dogs.
Besides that, as I often accompany my mom on her flights, many admirers call me a flight pup. I am a straightforward canine: I like almost everyone. However, I can spot, the unfriendly dog enthusiast. I usually spend extra time on that individual changing their mind. It doesn’t take long for that person to find me very cute and for me to feel likewise. They usually quickly become a Jackson lover. Would I find you cute? Check out by reading my post on Do Dogs Think Humans Are Cute?
You must be thinking that I am so full of myself; I think many people who watch my stories, videos, and pics on Instagram will find me an interesting and nice little dog. I find humans absolutely adorable. Perhaps, you are cute as well. If you are, I’ll be able to see you on my followers’ list at @mrjacksonmontgomery. I’m sure you will enjoy the people/canines who follow me there.
Enough about me, let me tell you some interesting facts about the Parson Jack Russell Terriers in general.
Feisty, plucky, and playful, the Parson Russell Terrier is a small dog breed standing tall at about 13 to 14 inches and weighing 13 to 18 pounds. Parson Russell Terrier was recognized as a breed by the American Kennel Club (AKC) in 1997.
I see you are getting bored. Ok! Ok! Let’s move to interesting facts without boring you with this tedious information.
1. Tiny But Mighty
Don’t be fooled by the small size of Parson Russell Terriers; we are mighty dogs in small dogs’ bodies. If you own a Parson Russell Terrier, you will know what I am talking about. My mom will attest to this statement without thinking twice.
2. We Are Highly Energetic Dogs
If you need a couch potato, look away. Parson Russell Terriers don’t like to laze around. Ok, a little bit, but if you expect us to stay on the couch with you all day long, we cannot be together. We are bound to break up. We were actually bred as hunting dogs. While we have contained our intense hunting extinct, do not expect us to control our energy as well. We just cannot cap our energy. If we don’t get ample exercise daily, we start developing behavioral issues. According to the Kennel Club, you should exercise us for up to an hour per day.
3. We Are Always Up For Adventures
Given our high energy levels, we are always up for adventures. If you are going on a walk around the block or the beach, we will accompany you. You are going swimming in the pool or hiking; I’ll lead the way. You want me to accompany you on flights, worry not. I am not afraid of heights; I’ll be your flight pup. If you don’t have time to take us out, no worries. We can lay interactive games at home—on the lawn. We can play fetch, or you can provide a continuous supply of chew toys. Continuous because I will tear them up.
Thanks, mom, for buying me a new ones every time I destroy the old ones.
4. We Ain’t For First-Time Owners
While many people assume that if a dog is small in size, it will be a perfect match for first-time dog owners. But it is not the case—at least not with the Parson Russell Terriers. As mentioned previously, we have a big personalities. If you are not experienced or cannot dedicate ample time and attention to our disciplining, socialization, and overall training, you should reconsider getting a Parson Russell Terrier.
5. We are Natural Fox Hunters
Parson Russell Terriers are swift, agile, brave, and courageous dogs. We were specifically developed to hunt down foxes—dig in and retrieve foxes from their lairs. We were developed in the 1800s by the Reverend Parson John Russell, “The Sporting Parson.”
6. Good Hunter but Great Companion
Yeah! Despite having a hunting background, Parson Russel Terriers can make great service dogs if provided with proper socialization and training. I myself am a service dog. I am great at keeping my audience entertained and lifting their spirits. On flights, I divert the passengers’ anxious feelings and thoughts with my antics and mischiefs. We, Parson Russell Terriers, are highly energetic dogs, so we never get tired of appeasing our audiences.
7. We Love Birds—Chasing Birds
As soon as we spot a bird, I guess, our hunting instincts kick in. We start barking and chasing birds. Therefore, you must always keep us on a leash when taking us outside as we don’t want to harm any bird or squirrel.
Here is me having difficulty spotting a bird and then losing my mind. That was some gigantic bird—probably bigger than me. But big doesn’t scare me.
